DTLA - Buy a Shoe, Help a Neighbor: Downtown Los Angeles has no shortage of shoe stores, but few of them directly impact the neighborhood. Things are different at Comunity (yes, just one ‘m’), which opened on Aug. 26 on Mateo Street in the Arts District. For one, the store sells shoes that are made in Downtown Los Angeles — it has an in-house cobbling station. Additionally, Comunity donates $10 from each sale to local nonprofits that work in the arts, education or homeless services. The 3,500-square-foot store and factory only has a few shoe lines now. Options for men and women are sneakers that range from the $160 Mateo to the $185 Traction.
