We will learn and apply the 3 P’s: Pieces, Practice and Playing. Your child will learn through fun mini games, gamification and engagement in the beginners club. Advanced Chess Club / HWIS Team: This class will focus on all aspects of tournament preparation, including tournament strategy, approaching different types of opponents, time management and use of chess clocks, how and when to notate, how to approach different kinds of tournaments with different rules, understanding how to play as a team, and how to focus before and after each round and outcome.
Chess (Grade: K to 4) Beginners Club: This class is for those students who are new to chess or have very basic knowledge of chess. We will learn how to unlock the skills needed to be successful in learning the game of chess. We will learn and apply the 3 P’s: Pieces, Practice and Playing. Your child will learn through fun mini games, gamification and engagement. Advanced Chess Club/ HWIS Team: This class will focus on all aspects of tournament preparation, including tournament strategy, approaching different types of opponents, time management and use of chess clocks, how and when to notate, how to approach different kinds of tournaments with different rules, understanding how to play as a team, and how to focus before and after each round and outcome. Topics will include active and passive pieces; pawn structures; checkmate patterns, tactical motifs and chess miniatures. Critical thinking skills and pattern recognition will be developed in this class and the goal is to have students competing in tournaments regularly. Tournaments fees are not included in the price. Vendor: Growing Minds Chess Academy Tuesday @ 3:45 pm – 4:45 pm 9 weeks, $360 Dates: January 9-March 26, 2024 No class dates: February 20 (Staff In Service), March 12 & 19 (Spring Break)
