Vishwanathan Anand is an Indian grandmaster and was World Chess Champion in 2008. Anand lost his defence of the title in 2013 being defeated by Magnus Carlsen. He is also one of nine players (along with Veselin Topalov, Garry Kasparov, Magnus Carlsen, Vladimir Kramnik, Levon Aronian, Alexander Grischuk, Hikaru Nakamura, and Fabiano Caruana) to break the 2800 rating mark.
